Job Description:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Head of Operations will lead all bus depot activities, overseeing drivers, the Traffic Office/Allocations team, and all aspects of daily service delivery. The role is responsible for operational performance, service quality, customer experience, and the profitability of the depot. You will provide strong leadership, ensure compliance with company standards, and foster a respectful, structured, and professional working environment.
Responsibilites:
- Lead and manage all bus operations, ensuring efficient service delivery and strong customer satisfaction.
- Identify and deliver new revenue opportunities through improved fleet utilisation, commercial growth, and partnerships.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety policies and all relevant legislation.
- Drive engagement across depot teams, drivers, and customers.
- Deliver agreed budgets, performance targets, and service quality standards.
- Oversee staff planning, ensuring adequate resourcing for business needs.
- Maintain effective relationships with trade unions and local authorities.
- Manage initiatives to reduce collisions and staff/passenger injuries.
- Deliver and monitor operational KPIs.
- Liaise with external bodies to improve punctuality and reduce lost miles.
- Ensure correct cash handling procedures are followed.
- Conduct driver and staff appraisals, identifying training needs and managing all HR-related matters.
- Oversee driver inductions and address staff welfare issues.
Team Responsibility KPI’s:
You will ensure daily completion of mandatory operational KPIs, including:
- Random drug and alcohol testing
- Driving licence checks
- Gate checks (run-outs and run-backs)
- Service monitoring
- Depot punctuality checks
All KPIs must be completed and submitted electronically each operational day.
Hours of work:
- 45 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
- Flexibility required, including weekends, bank holidays, and unsocial hours

Skills:
- Transport Manager CPC (essential)
- Strong knowledge of UK Domestic Drivers’ Hours, EU Drivers’ Hours, and Working Time Regulations
- Basic competence in Microsoft Office
- Experience using Trapeze and Ticketer systems
