Purpose of the Job: As a Health & Safety Advisor, you will drive behavioural change to ensure excellence in the health, safety, and welfare of employees. You will provide assurance to the Senior Management Team (SMT) that health and safety standards are upheld, ensuring a proactive approach to risk management and resilience.

This is an opportunity to work collaboratively with a dynamic Safety & Resilience Team, championing safety standards across the business, developing best practices, and promoting a risk-aware culture. The role also supports emergency planning and business continuity efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety Leadership: Manage Health and Safety Coordinators, Fire Marshals, DSE assessors, and First Aiders, championing their contributions to ensure efficient and productive delivery of objectives.
  • Training & Development: Identify, develop, and deliver internal and external health and safety training for all staff. Source specialist training providers when necessary.
  • Health & Safety Audits: Support and audit local managers’ health and safety management. Create action plans based on audit results, monitor their delivery, and provide quarterly and annual reports to SMT.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents and audit investigations for off site incidents. Maintain and analyse incident data and keep comprehensive records.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct regular inspections and audits of work sites and activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Emergency Planning & Resilience: Support business continuity planning and emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Health & Safety Information: Provide appropriate and timely health and safety information, including updates through quarterly newsletters, and maintain the H&S folder on the intranet.
  • Legislative Compliance: Monitor changes in health and safety legislation, maintaining Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and supporting the Safety & Resilience Manager.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure fire safety compliance, coordinating fire drills and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Property on fire safety measures.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with staff, trade unions, external bodies, and regulatory authorities (HSE).
  • Work towards achieving the NEBOSH Diploma.

Supervisory & Financial Responsibilities:

  • Line manage Health & Safety Coordinators, setting a high standard of health and safety at work.
  • Oversee expenditure related to personal protective equipment and health and safety training, ensuring it aligns with the agreed budget.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Proven experience in health and safety management.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and train staff at all levels.
  • Ability to conduct audits, manage action plans, and analyse incident data.
  • Competence in business continuity and emergency planning support.
